Does anxiety therapy work?
What is anxiety therapy?
“Anxiety disorders and depression compete for being the number one health problem in western society”.
Human Givens Course
These statistics are scary. The number one health problem in western society is a large number of people walking around in either a state of depression, or on edge and causing physical damage to their bodies as a result of being in a constant state of anxiety.
The NHS is overwhelmed. Never before have we been in such a crisis. Medications such as Citalopram, Fluoxetine and Sertraline are being prescribed at alarming rates, as GPs try to stick a plaster over a wound that cannot be healed by tablets alone.
So, how might anxiety therapy help?
Anxiety therapy can take many forms, such as talking therapy, reframing thought patterns, TFT and hypnotherapy.
One of the most effective things I have found is the use of hypnosis to uncover the root of the anxiety, quickly and safely. We can then get straight into treatment without spending months dragging it all back up and making things worse.
It is not uncommon for people to feel lighter after just 1-2 sessions.
I use a combination of regression back to various points in your life where the problem may have first surfaced, and then an exploration of some psychotherapy models such as Transactional Analysis, which talks about the messages we may have received when we were very small and which may now be causing the anxiety as we struggle to fulfil the expectations of others and of ourselves.
Is it safe?
In short, yes. Anxiety Therapy is perfectly safe to work through therapy in a short number of sessions. I am guided by the client. Some clients need to come for a long time, some just want to be in and out as quick as possible.
There is evidence from eminent psychotherapists of the very powerful work they have carried out in just two sessions.
I use my professional judgement to establish whether the client is safe to go at a quicker pace or whether we need to take things slower. I do this by being fully present in the room. I do not use a script, all sessions are completely spontaneous and tailored to exactly what is unfolding as we work in the room. Through exploring such things as body language, eye movement and facial expression, I can make an informed decision on the best way to proceed.
“Psychological stress is as much a function

of how we see the world as how the world really is.”
Anxiety therapy uncovers the way we have been viewing the world that may have led to the unpleasant symptoms we are now suffering. Armed with this knowledge, we can then reframe our perceptions to allow us to move forwards and truly live again.
