WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2024

This World Mental Health Day, the theme is mental health in the workplace and more particularly burnout.

As a therapist, I see many people who are suffering the effects of burnout. Left unresolved it can cause us issues in all areas of our lives. We may find ourselves snapping at family members. We can find that something very trivial, like a stack of dirty dishes, tips us over the edge, as we feel there is always something else to be done and we never get a break from the demands of daily life. We may engage in road rage.

Burnout can lead to us being in a constant state of anger caused by high stress levels. It can also send us spiralling into unhealthy behaviours as we look for something to make us feel better, or to take away the edge. This is often how we develop issues around alcohol, drug abuse, unhealthy sexual relationships, binge or comfort eating and high levels of retail therapy, to name but a few.

If you would like some help to address burnout in your life, do get in touch for a chat. When it is left unresolved, it can mean we hit rock bottom and the road back to recovery is longer and a bit tougher. Tackle it before it gets to that stage, and protect your physical and mental health. It’s too precious not to.

Make every day a Mental Health Day.
